About Andrew Wyeth Seed Corn Painting
This was painted in the attic of the Olson house in Maine. Seed corn, saved for the next year and hung in the attic, seemed typical of New England ways; it speaks, in Wyeth's mind, of every farm in Maine. His choice of the subject illustrates a tendency which was to grow steadily stronger in his art, to make a small fragment of the world, vividly stated, imply the unseen whole of which it is part.
